Where do you want to start? 2000 years ago? Oh, no, can't do that with NYC
Much as I like NYC (and I honestly loved the place when I visited) I do get tired of this "we're the greatest" claim at times

Nottingham used to be the capital of England so i have my claim in...
... yes it did.

[quote4011a="jonemo"]
until now i see this:
- for usamericans the world begins in LA and ends in NY, soewhere there is a isle called great britain - the live the people called "hosentaschenamerikaner" (perhaps like "trouser pocket americans") in germany for example
[/quote4011a]
I'm going to pretend I didn't see that. First of all, because I live in JAPAN and I'm American. 2nd of all Americans aren't as ignorant as the world seems to believe.

[quote699d6="psoTFX"]tosh, English is embedded as the language of so many global institutions and organisations it will without much doubt remain as the "global language of choice".[/quote699d6]
tosh, tosh. Latin used to be the embedded language for everything, same thing for French, but are they now? No.
I really think we need a nice, world wide language that everyone would learn and then they could have their own language as well. I've heard of Esperanto , but I'm wondering, does that have all regular verbs? Irregular verbs (and genders for that matter) really suck when you're not used to using them (well gender, English has irregular verbs left and right).
Maybe what I'm about to describe is Esperanto, but I think a combination of French and Spanish that is neutered and has all regular verbs would be wonderful!!!!

London.. hmm, sounds familiar... sure.. never been, but I've heard good things about it... but, I still feel the need to insist NYC is so great because it's a culmination of all cultures and all things cultural and it truly is the city that never sleeps.. you can do practically anything imagineable at any hour...
you have harrod's, we have macy's.. the largest department store in the world (you seriously need a GPS system to get around in it)... what's even more amazing is the new Toys R Us, the largest toy store in the world... the restaurants... the theatre.. the total ambience. it's one thing to feel hometown pride, so I'll give you that.. but you concede and everyone else Ive ever talked to that's been here that it is an incredible enchanting place.. it's impossible not to enjoy yourself here..
I've only lived here for the past 4 years as well, so it's not all about hometown pride.. the only rotten thing about it is the cost of living, but I understand London's no slouch in that department either.

I just checked it out a little bit on http://www.esperanto.net - evidently there are verb tenses, but only one verb conjugation, so I guess there's no such thing as an irregular verb. It was designed to be as simple as possible, with few but extremely strict rules (no exceptions!).
Evidently it does have a feminine suffix for words, but no male suffix.

Culmination of all cultures ... you really have never been to London have you
'Cultures' were mixing in London when New York City didn't exist beyond what is now Battery Park

Size alone does not make a City great
Tower of London, nearly 1000 years old, home to the largest cut diamond in the world (if we must talk 'size'
), the British Museum home to many of the worlds greatest treasures, several of the worlds other leading museums, the British Library (home to one of three(?) surviving copies of the Magna Carta, the original Beowulf and numerous other artifacts ... Washington houses your 'rival'
), Palace of Westminster "Mother of Parliaments", the West End (with more shows and movies playing than any other city including NYC ... and at reasonable prices, unlike NYC) blah blah blah
We could go on for ages ... but I don't think it will get us anywhere

boy.. no wonder RC-3 hasn't been released yet, you're stuck on living in the past
London can be the greatest city east of the atlantic ocean and NYC will be the greatest city west of the atlantic.
I am so smooth, I slip on myself.
