Back in the day, I always wondered what that SQL thing was? And then I learned it was "Structured Query Language" Okay, so I though it was "S-Q-L". And then I had someone ask me if I knew sequel. I was like "What?". So I have called it "sequel" ever since.

So:

mySQL = "my sequel" (god, the last thing anyone wants to see is the second edition/followup of me) :wink:

MSSQL = "em es sequel"

however, I don't follow that with postgreSQL, just cuz it is funny-looking, so:

postgreSQL = "post-gresk-ull"

The 'official' way is winning ... :)
/me always pronounced it like My Ess Que Ell, never knew there were people calling it sequel :?
Must be 'cause I'm foreign or something, in Dutch it's 'Maj Ess Kuu Ell' ;)

mySQL => my - Ess - Que -Ell
postgreSQL => post - gres - Que Ell (Don't ask why..)
SCSI => Scussi (Again, don't ask why..)

I dunno. I am very fanatic about saying SCSI as scuzzy. Not even for any personal beliefs or anything, just the degree of ease that one says "scuzzy" as opposed to S-C-S-I. The main thing is that both "es" and "see" are stressed. So you really have to draw it out, "es, pause, see, pause, es, aye" because you have to be clear with all the stressed syllables. At least things like "ef, ay, que" flow together, (stressed, unstressed, stressed) 8)

Well it's totally off topic, but our HR staff once put an employment ad in the Chicago Tribune looking for people with SOL experience.

OTOH, this sounds just like "how do you say Linux" :D.

Often, the attitudes in your posts give away your age. :wink:

And do you also always spell the word "THE" as "TEH" or is that just the way you spell it in your sig? :wink:
