Private Messages should remain as is. Members shouldn't have to dig through the UCP for quick access to Private Messages.

Agreed. Plus, you can see exactly how many unread (or new?) PMs you have there and people can use the link to write PMs to other people, too. It's not just for reading old PMs.

I also agree with hanakin that PMs shouldn't be part of the UCP, but that's another issue.

You can already do that in the UCP -- UCP -> Board preferences -> Edit notification options.

-1. Just because I have notifications doesn't mean I look through them. Plus if I have a ton of notifications the PM one will just be lost in there. If you find it redundant then perhaps the notification should be removed, but not the PM link.

Somebody already said you can disable it in the UCP or in the Settings link of the Notifications panel so this discussion is kind of pointless. If you don't like the notifications about PMs then turn it off. It's that simple.
