MariaDB WILL replace MySQL in future.
MySQL will be less and less free, thanks to oracle...

Re: [RFC] Support for MariaDB
How can you be sure of that?

Re: [RFC] Support for MariaDB
Google is already making the switch to MariaDB. Check out this article, "Google Waves Goodbye To MySQL In Favor Of MariaDB" (published September 14, 2013).

Re: [RFC] Support for MariaDB
This is going off-topic (The topic being MariaDB support for phpBB). Essentially, phpBB does already support MariaDB so the only thing we could do is add it to a list of supported database systems unless anyone can point out a way that we can do something to improve MariaDB Support?

Re: [RFC] Support for MariaDB
Is it worth adding this for 3.0.x as well? I'm intending on testing it out and seeing it it will work at all.

There is nothing to add, and we couldn't change anything, even if we wanted to as php just has a mysqli driver which works fine for MariaDB.MichaelC wrote:phpBB does already support MariaDB so the only thing we could do is add it to a list of supported database systems unless anyone can point out a way that we can do something to improve MariaDB Support?

Good catch I suppose we could at lease make a note in the installer and documentation about it.

Re: [RFC] Support for MariaDB
Considering that this Travis-CI ticket has not been implemented within the last 6 months, I have gone ahead and implemented MariaDB support for Travis-CI in our repository. See https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb3/pull/1780/filesbantu wrote:It would be nice to run tests using our MySQL driver on a MariaDB database. For Travis-CI see https://github.com/travis-ci/travis-ci/issues/1081
We will add MariaDB to the documentation files of 3.0.13. See http://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-11920*Daniel wrote:Good catch I suppose we could at lease make a note in the installer and documentation about it.
