[RFC] Spam clean up in message approval

Post by Arty »

When new user is placed in newly registered group, his first posts require approval. There are only 2 options for posts waiting approval - approve and disapprove. I suggest adding third option: spam.

Clicking that button will disapprove all posts and ban poster. It should speed up cleaning up spam.

This would be very nice to have.

The issue is what is done to the user for this task. Should all posts be deleted/private messages/profile information/ban user/delete account/etc.

It is a good idea, but I would rather see Akismet integration which would do this automatically. Akismet could be used when posted/edited post/topic, edited signature etc..

If phpBB has one good antispam solution, others would not be needed. reCaptcha and Akismet combination should be enough I think.

Akismet doesn't stop all spam (I've been using it for a number of months). Also it still requires manual intervention (many false positives).

Good idea. My mods would like it.
I'm currently deleting the account and removing all posts of spammers from the ACP. That way I don't have to disapprove other posts from the same spammer.

Why not, but the button shouldn't be called "Spam" because that isn't really clear what it does. Maybe "Ban Hammer" or "Disapprove All & Ban" or something.
