reCAPTCHA for emails

Post by The Wizard »

http://www.google.com/recaptcha/mailhide/

This hide a portion of the email so spam bots can't get the email and send viagra ads.
If someone post his email you will have to enter captcha to see the whole email.

Can be good as an option if used for emails in post aswell as on a users profile.

Must be able to disabled it on a per forum basis though since bots cant access all areas on most forums because of permisions. And by "bots" i mean registered users guests.

IMO phpBB shouldn't just depend on a single 3rd party solution (i.e. MailHide). If this was implemented, then it should be a plugin, not just designed for reCAPTCHA.

People really shouldn't be posting their e-mail addresses in public, but since you can't (always) stop them from doing so, this feature might actually be pretty useful.

I agree with this. phpBB already has a pluggable captcha system, re-using it for other features should be fairly easy.

Especially now that reCAPTCHA is vulnerable to algorithmic attacks.

I kind of like this idea...but not so sure it needs to be in the base package, i.e. maybe it should be a MOD/plugin?

This would be a good feature :) I don't think it should just be recaptcha though, it should be whatever captcha that is chosen.
