Lol, been wandering the same. But why the subdomain "area51", why not "forum", or another more "logical" (quotes attaches because of the relativity of things) name?

Here's a wikipedia article on Area 51. In short, it is the US Military's name for a military base in Nevada. That base is home to a lot of experimental aircraft and weapon systems.

Because the actual Area 51 is all about testing and experimenting, and this board is also about testing and experimenting new phpBB versions and features, they decided to call it by the same name.

Alot of testing grounds for software's use the name 'area 51' cause area 51 bascilly means testing ground.

Its not the phpbb.com forum. Its the phpbb.com testing forum. The main forum is http://phpbb.com/community/. This forum is where the Development team can test things out ect., and is more for the developers, mod developers and stylers of phpbb. Rather than the main forums which is for normal phpbb.com members to get support and MODs and Styles and for mod/style authors.
