I'm just a newbie pphBBer but I have created a BB and added forums (category-forums) and users and posts.
But recently I created 4 forums and only 2 of them showed up in the board index. I went through all of the permission settings again, with no luck. Then I deleted the 4 forums to start from scratch. But now I can't add even 1 forum. There are no error messages, but the board just says "This board has no forums".
From the administrative control panel's view of things there is indeed a forum/category. Here (hope the notation isn't too obscure) are the settings for this forum's permissions:
Just 1 forum
Group > Forum Permissions Role
---------------------------------------
Administrators > Full Access
Bots > Bot Access
Glb Moderators > Std Access + Polls
Guests > Read Only Access
Reg Users > Standard Access + Polls
Group > Moderator Role
----------------------------
Administrators > Full Moderator
Bots >No role assigned NEVER set
Glb Moderators -> Standard Moderator
Guests, Reg users > No role assigned NO set
2 users, 1 admin/full access, 1 reg. user standard features, NO admin, NO moderator
+ Anonymous, read only access NEVER moderator NEVER admin
Thanks for any help with this. Good luck with straightening out the phpbb website problems (must be a nightmare).

Is it a forum or a category?starfish wrote: there is indeed a forum/category.
If it is a category, it will not show until you put a forum in it.
Re: Added forums not showing on board
It was a forum of type category (according to the admin panel notation). Ok, it was a category.
For the 4 (supposed) categories I created I probably really created 2 of them as top-level forums, so they showed up.
Top-level forums and categories look pretty similar on the board.
Thank you for the help.

Re: Added forums not showing on board
I have the same problem, but I don´t understand the difference between category and forum.
I thought "forum" was the whole thing and categories "subthings", but as you put it it´s the contrary?
1. I have tried to create a new forum and call it a forum with no parent.
2. Then I have created new forums within the first one and have called them catogories. Parent: the first forum.
3. Then I have given the permissions like for Guests "Standard", but it doesn´t work anyway.
Please help!

The whole thing is the board.trad_admin_supp wrote:I have the same problem, but I don´t understand the difference between category and forum.

Inside that are categories. If you look at the index on this site, phpBB Related and Everything Else are categories.
Inside those are forums. Such as phpBB 3.0.x Support and [3.x/Olympus] Discussion
Inside the forums are topics.
Inside the topics are posts.
In forum management make a new forum.
Type: category
No parent.
Then make another forum.
Type:forum
Parent: the category you just made.
Then you need to set permissions so everyone can see it
Admin control panel>Permissions>Groups forum permissions.
Set the registered users to be able to see and post in it.

I am having the same problem. I am also a newbie. Forums were showing. Had a bunch of spammers. Deleted the spammers. Deleted their messages and now Board Index says "This Board has no forums" even though when I go to the Administration Control Panel they are all there.

Did you delete a user called anonymous?rben612 wrote:I am having the same problem. I am also a newbie. Forums were showing. Had a bunch of spammers. Deleted the spammers. That user should be in the guest group.
Re: Added forums not showing on board
Yes, I did. I added Anonymous guest back (thought he was a spammer--lol) and now I can see the forums.
Thanks

Just for reference, that anonymous account is the one used by everyone who is not logged in. It should be in the guest group only.
Re: Added forums not showing on board
Thanks, I did put him under guest.
