Ban by IP address, unban by name?

Post by Nicholas the Italian »

Hi,
throwing there an idea based on a real problem.

There's a banned user who keeps re-subscribing and invading my board. The problem would probably be solved banning quite a wide range of IP addresses, but if I do there's at least one legit user that results banned too.
Possible solution: an "unban" list by user name, i.e., you can ban any IP you want but if a user is explicitly allowed, that ban doesn't apply to him/her.

What do you think? Is something like this already achievable (thorugh MOD or something like that)?

I second this because most of users on my board use dial up. This definately be a step in the right direction. Btw nice suggestion :)

Looking right now. If it works as I think, it's great but definitely not clear.

[edit] @ Prince: even with ADSL, adresses are dynamic.

Yes, they do change with ADSL but the range jumps more for dial up (at least in my case). I had one user connecting with 15+ IP addresses :|
