Extension system?

Post by Lucas Malor »

Hello. phpBB will ever have an extension system?

PunBB 1.3 beta has an extension system (they call them "hooks"). You can look at it, because it's a GPL software:

Ok, I thought it was not already present, because in the compare page "Automatic MOD Installer" is signalled as not available:

http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/compare.php

Does it means another feature I don't know?

Automatic mod installation has nothing to do with a 'hooks' system. The hook system will allow other software to be hooked/integrated into/with phpBB. An automatic mod installer is being developed currently which will be the phpBB3 version of easymod :)

phpBB has a Module system which allows the automatic installation of modules. These are limited to certain places, like the acp, mcp and the ucp; as well as search, authentication and caching. Then there is a hook system for external extensions.
Moreover, the style system is in itself more powerful than most contenders.

So: yes, phpBB3 has an automatic extension system. More than one. The thing being worked on is the automated installation of core changes, which aren't needed for many common modification requests.
No support via PM.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.
