And as there is more development along coastal regions, the more devastating the Hurricanes and Cyclones will become.
This, of course, does not mean they are any more powerful now then they were a hundred years ago. -- But they will cause more damage in places like New Orleans. -- That’s what happens when you build a city 6 feet below sea level.

Re: Global Warming
Well I don't keep track of hurricanes, that's the only one I knew so I used it as an example.

Re: Global Warming
I am starting to wonder if the little bit of warming we have had even matters. With other things that affect our climate as much as they do, I think the little bit of warming was probably not even enough to matter, or maybe we could have gone into a major cooling period if it wouldn't have kept it warmer.
Who knows, but with all the sun inactivity we've had the last few months, it has taken away all of the warming we've had in the last hundred years or so.

Re: Global Warming
May ACTUALLY help if some would learn a little about the weather and how it works. If they did i am certain they too would see that this global warming stuff is JUNK.
Consider this,
1. That polar ice someone mentioned is now in the record book for having the most Ice ever seen sence the Satellite/tracking era. Same goes for the snowcover across the northern Hemisphere.
Global temps BOTH Jan and Feb came in just a bit over -1/2 degrees below normal which is the biggest drop ever seen and has almost wiped out all the warming we saw the last century.
None of that is even considering the historic winter events that has happend in all parts of the globe from South Africa, to the Middle East and on to China. Not to mention the record cold and snows in the midwest part of the USA. All in the past year.
May wanna get to know about our Oceans ( La'Nina-'El'Nino etc ) and how they are big drivers in our climate as is the Sun ( Solar flux etc).

Re: Global Warming
Here is a video from CNN's Glenn Beck on "EXPOSED: The Climate of Fear" on Global Warming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io-Tb7vTamY&NR=1
"I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter
arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.
In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting,
coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have
been duped."

Re: Global Warming
But, you see, we have the "sloppy data" problem right here in this thread. Consider the assertion that "this global warming stuff is JUNK" against the assertion that "Global temps BOTH Jan and Feb came in just a bit over -1/2 degrees below normal which is the biggest drop ever seen and has almost wiped out all the warming we saw the last century."
What may very well be JUNK is AGW, not the fact of global warming over the past century. We can't argue both ways and be credible, whether we buy into AGW or not. A key comment in the video is this: "It really makes a difference. What are we talking about? The only consensus I'm aware of is that it's warmed in the last century."
So it continues to boil down to basic stewardship. It boils down to appropriate reaction to effects of climate change (whether warming or cooling) to food and energy supplies. Global climate change is relevant sociologically whether AGW is junk or not. In almost every case where someone pronounces [A]GW junk, in my experience, they walk away from the stewardhsip question as well. I don't at all understand why.
Basic environmental issues deserve at least a nod if we are to be considered good stewards. We don't build bedrooms over garages, we don't run automobiles in closed garages, we don't burn charcoal stoves in closed spaces, etc. The Earth's environment is finite, like the living space in my home. One doesn't have to be a tree hugger to connect environmental thoughtfulness and common sense.

Re: Global Warming
I completely agree with that. Which is why I use Solar Panels to charge my batteries, it’s why I have energy saver bulbs in all of my light sockets, and it’s why I use skylights to generate ample light during the day.
It’s why I only drive when I have to, and use fuel efficient cars.
It’s why I turn my thermostat way down in the winter, wear a sweatshirt in the house, and way up in the summer. (though not too high, that we sweat inside )
And is there more I could do? absolutely! But I have to take one step at a time because it’s quite expensive.
My plan is to generate so much electricity on my own that I’d be supplying power back to the grid.
Yes, people should absolutely be concerned with taking action. But you don’t have to swallow baloney to take action.
Taking action, preserving energy and fuel really has nothing to do with Global Warming. It’d do it if we were in a Global Cooling period.

Re: Global Warming
Solar = too expensive and inefficient.
I am waiting for solar cells with double the efficiency for half the price or less, then I would even try to mod my laptop so it has solar cells integrated in the cover.

Re: Global Warming
I agree. If I saw more ordinary people like us quit relying on the debunkers for a reason to do nothing, I'd feel much better.Highway of Life wrote:Yes, people should absolutely be concerned with taking action. But you don’t have to swallow baloney to take action.
Debunking is fine and all, but it's not very productive in the face of actual problems. If we all admit that global climate change is a fact of life and that it can have a substantial impact on life, if we all admit that the environmental footprint of 1st World countries is too big, then why spend so much time and energy trying to show that humans are not the sole cause of global warming? At this point, who cares?
Al and the MSM can spin it out how they like. Debunkers can spin it out any way they like. We have a non-trivial problem -- whether big or small matters not, because it is non-trivial -- that we, as ordinary people, can spend our time profitably considering while the spinsters on either side do their thing. I think that's all I'm really advocating. Every time I have a CRT monitor go bad somewhere (just as one example among many) I face a problem I wish we were discussing rather than worrying quite as much about swallowing baloney.

Re: Global Warming
Well, I’m beginning to like Global Warming at this rate...
Our Winter of 2007-2008 just moved to number 2 snowiest on record for Spokane Washington.
As of 1 am Sunday April 6th... the winter snowfall total for Spokane was 89.4 inches.
This total is the second snowiest on record.
Records have been kept for Spokane since 1893.
The top ten winter snow totals are listed below...
If this trend continues for a few years, maybe the Ski Resorts will get the message and stay open until May like they should.
Season Snowfall: 89.5" (227.33 cm)
Normal Snowfall: 45.2" (114.81 cm)
Last Season Snowfall: 35.2" (89.41 cm)
The planet was much snowier and colder than usual during the winter of 2007-2008, according to statistics released by the National Climatic Data Center. Snow cover extent over the Northern Hemisphere during the period December 2007 - February 2008 was the fourth greatest on record, and was the greatest on record for January. Satellite-derived snow cover records extend back to 1967. Some regions of the Middle East, such as Baghdad, Iraq saw their first snow in living memory.
