Post by D3monik »

So Im looking to create a general forum site for my clan for a game. I went to http://www.freeforums.org and registered and i can do everything fine in terms of admin but i have one simple question. can i use cash mod, rank mod, easy mod with what i have or do i need to pay for something? im lost on how this all works. am i very limited to what add-on mods i can use with my forums.

You need to ask them.
Need good web hosting? I recommend Hostrocket.

http://www.freeforums.org is a host who offers phpBB forums using the phpBB software, however such free hosts modify the software to work with their multi-hosting scripts meaning we do not offer support for the software that these free hosts use. All your support needs to be sought from http://www.freeforums.org.

phpBB.com is the home of the phpBB message board software which is free to download and use, however phpBB does not provide hosting and as such you will need your own host and domain name to use the software. If you go down this road you will have full access to the forum files and database and therefore be able to modify the forum as you wish. Of course this will involve paying for your domain and hosting.

You can also use free hosts such a [spam removed - karlsemple]
Zymic is extremely good with domains such as: [spam removed - karlsemple] or[spam removed - karlsemple]... not the horrible [spam removed - karlsemple]

Also i don't work for these guys I'm just offering some advise if you don't want to buy domain & hosting

I am not sure if you consider this spam and if you do i'm extremely sorry, just real good service ;)

i guess its considered spam here. lol. anywayz i went the easy route and got my own domain and a host. now im stuck figuring out which version phpbb i want to use as ive tried both and neither are easily configurable. I mainly want cash mod, lottery mod, subforum mod, rep mod, shout box mod, birthday mod, show who was online last mod but i want it all so i can understand how to properly install it. i've tried for about 3 days on phpbb3 with nothing but errors so deleted forums and database files and went with phpbb2. installed easymod and after two mod installations, cash and xsstyle mod have nothing but errors on my following installs. Who knew it would be this damn compicating.

Now im starting to think im wasting 7/month paying for a host and domain to host forums i cant even open up to public b/c its hard to conifure without redoing everything a billion times. :(

Hi D3monik,

Everything new is a bit complicated first time you ever do it. You should take it easy and get a grip on things slowly, start running your board without even modding it, and then ask specific support questions on main community board after searching for answers to your questions before posting them. 99.9999 % of all questions are already answered there about phpBB 2.0.x. Please also read online documentation etc. carefully before asking. Rome was not built in one day. This board is not for support. :)
