Hint : The smart way to read here on area51 and to get the real hard core info is to do a search from time to time and read the developer's posts. I suggest you start with Acyd Burn's posts to find it.

INSERT INTO phpbb_config (config_name, config_value) VALUES ('version', '3.0.B6-dev');
The only ususal sign is hysteria here on area51, and that does not do it alone Near by and up to each earlier release the 3.0 bug tracker was almost empty, except at the Beta 2 release. Are any of you guys even suscribing to emailnotifications for CVS commits? - not much has been going on the last 24 hours or so - some commits from DavidMJ and one from SHS` - well, all developers are AFAIK living in the Northern hemosphere,and it's spring for them also.
I would be very surprised to see a new version this weekend, but I really hope that I'm wrong
That line in the schemas always is unchanged until just before the next release comes out though.
I think the 'activity' in the commits and the bug tracker is certainly unusual fodder for the speculators

The topic over at Area51 is quite enough. Despite having had to have a change of plans with the new website, we wouldn't be running phpBB3 here (and thus suitable for the next release to be a Release Candidate) if we didn't think it was stable enough (yes it's CVS code, however we're quite able to cope with updating that thanks ). Part of the delay was that the rest of the site wasn't in a stable enough of a state and indeed some parts are still "work-in-progress".
Found this on phpBB.com and thought it was quoteworthy, as it implies RC to be the next release, doesn't it ?
