Someone is saying otherwise. God knows this is the Internet and rumors abound, but just about everyone I've ever talked to on the subjects says the same thing.

If Prosilver is coming in the next release or RC1 (if the next release isn't RC1) that'd be awesome. And don't get me wrong, in the last six months this project exploded with activity...I just hate being told to wait for anything related to phpBB3 because I've been doing so since 2.1.x started. :P

Ok, you can't steal the files, you can steal the concept.
I bet my right kidney (since I lost the left one in another bet some time ago) we are going to see avatars moved to the right in some board before Olympus goes gold. ;)
Acyd Burn wrote: Why don't you guys just wait?

Because we are so talk-show addicted...
And we have some thousands messages about "beta X / RC1 coming soon / when do you expect beta X / RC1 to be out / how many RCs will there be / guess gold release date" and so on. We'll never learn.

Yep, I've already seen a style with the avatar aligned to the right. Granted it was vB but I believe the style is being made for Olympus.

CyberAlien is waaaaaay ahead of the game. :P

I used that idea from prosilver. That vB style is only on my support forum, not available for download. And my coding is awful compared to prosilver code - its 100% semantically incorrect and I had to use few tables for layout because of vbulletin limitations (ajax and hybrid/threaded thread view). The only thing in my test style I borrowed from prosilver is postbit concept, everything else hasn't been modified much and I'm not planning to modify it futher.

acyd, i think you misinterpret my comment/intention.
i have no problem waiting. the issue here is not impatience or something like it.
i expressed the thought that the template, like any other part of the package, should be tested, and the more thorough the testing, the better.
in the past, people from the team said that the new design will only be released with the gold, so whatever happened with subsilver on 2.0 release will not repeat itself.
all i said was that since this reasoning does not apply any more, as the new design is exposed on phpbb.com, imho it would be best to release it now, so we can test it with different languages, RTL, run some w3 xhtml validation, test the acp (if it's different than the current acp) etc.
of course you will release it when you decide, this is not a question. i only suggested that the product will profit if you decide to release it now.
this post is not meant as a continued nagging. you do what you think best. this post is only meant as a clarification, because i think my first message was misinterpreted as expressing impatience rather than constructive expression of my opinion regarding what best for the product.

But maybe everyone you talked to only forwarded the assumptions they got from others. :D But yes, i can think of some reasons why there are some saying "no, this will be definatly only released with gold" - i think even Paul (psoTFX) said it a long time ago. But at the end of the day this is a decision i have to make in accordance with the other team leaders - and sometimes it also happens that we change minds and re-think situations based on other events. ;) Most people call us close-minded, that is fine, i do not care. :D But i care about the software and it's surroundings (this includes the community and the people using it) - even if it does not look like it sometimes. Within the process of leading development you also make some bad decisions, but these are learning lessons. Sometimes you also need to make "unpopular" decisions to be able to reach the set goal. ;)

You're probably right about Paul being the one to say it, Meik, but as there was never an official change in the policy since then (and many other policies stayed in place after his departure), there was no reason to believe that it had changed. The subject had been brought up on numerous occasions in the time since, and no one has ever contradicted it. In fact, I believe several team members reiterated it over that time, so while you are certainly free to change your mind about it, we did have reason to believe that we wouldn't see the new style until gold release.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.

I think the policy changed after March, 10, 2007.

What is "gold" ? :P
The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
