It really doesn't need AJAX.
VB uses a lot of AJAX and Javascript in General and it's a very slow forum.
There are places where AJAX would be cool to have, but that's only a coolness and convenience factor

UCP > Opitions > AJAX: enable/disable

enable & disable is a great idea.
maybe a browser check if js is enabled or not. if not take the default scripts without ajax
i think ajax upload / vote is great.
inline edit sux because there are many users they will not recognise that this is an editable field.
