actually it depends on how the animated captcha is, if you have one in flash it could be morphing letters and a morphing background also to throw off computers

Flash can easily be decompiled and have the original text read out from it - that would be like using a reversible hash algorithm to store passwords in a database....

But it would be a CAPTCHA generated flash file... so even grabbing it to read out would not work.
AND... tell me if I'm wrong...

But is there such a bot or program out there that would be able to 'download' the flash file, decompile it, THEN read the text and insert the correct text in the FLAPTCHA without user intervention?

Remember people...you were here when the word FLAPTCHA was invented.

I think they're avoiding flash as much as possible because not everyone has/uses flash in their browsers.

As of 2001, 97% of Internet users had flash players.

I don't have stats since then, but do you think they would go down?
The percentage that does NOT have flash players would be less then those that have visual handicaps. (i.e. Color-blind)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what does not exist can be created, right? It's not so much about what exists already, it is about how easy it would be to create it. And also, what the return on investment would be for a spammer.

It's probably worth quite some effort to develop a bot that cracks the CAPTCHA of any one of the top 10 forum solutions out there. Which is what is behind my statement in another thread that the large variety of tests that a pluggable system would induce would in itself probably already have a positive influence on the sensitivity for spam for individual boards (unless the board is very high profile and it becomes beneficial to target that one single board).

Bull
Straight up bull. That is a damn lie.

I have a few short quips to add in:
1) Mobile users
2) text-mode browsers
3) Alternative OS users with hella compatibility issues
"If You Support It, They Will Come."
"Construction"

Think of this.

by 2001, there were no Mobile users.
It's not bull, but straight up fact, and I don't appreciate being called a "liar". :x

But even now,... those browsers that you mentioned still make up less than 3% of internet browsers.

All Captcha's are easy to crack... All the spammer has to do is show your captcha to some other user: "TYPE THE LETTERS YOU SEE IN THIS PICTURE FOR UNLIMITED ACCES TO OUR FREE PORN ARCHIVE." This will motivate enough people to crack as many cattcha's as they want.
Now... who has an idea to stop this???
