thats great. the quality thing will go down, and people might associate the real phpBB3 with low quality ;x

The problem with the torrent, is that you can't be sure the torrent file is really containing the good archive, it can be a zip with another content, or even a modification of the package. The best choice is and will always remain to download from the official source website

when phpbb 3 beta was relased was it public or did a just a few members get it?
with all the new fetures of phpbb3 thay dont have a center option...

I have no idea how they choose those people, but they did it at random.

The select few were all given access to a secret page at http://www.phpbb.com/development/" target="_blank . Only those who were selected can view that page. All others get a 403 error.

There's an even smaller select group that gets access to the cvs via the anonymous public cvs at sourceforge. They get the details on the page http://area51.phpBB.com/cvs" target="_blank .

Yes, and it was based off of IPs from members on Area51, we all entered a lottery.

Okay...the announcement for the release of phpBB3 Beta1 was posted on 18 June 2006. The torrent was uploaded on 15th June.

This secret release happenend how long before the public release?
