indeed, when i was signing up here, i kep on pressing F5 till i got a pic i could actualy read.
Ahh but see thats the problem. The old CAPTCHA is as good as no CAPTCHA, because it has be cracked and re-cracked.

I think he means the logic CAPTCHA, the one that requires you to do the shape matching.

That was done by Xore, not David.

If this gets that much of a burden, you are either
  • running a very large board and you should offload the task to a dedicated person (one of your existing cisually impaired users might be inclined to help);
  • running a board for visually impaired people, in which case you'd probably want to turn off the CAPTCHA and deal with spam registrations instead.

Cant there be an option whether you have the "improved" which is in my opinion rubbish, new CAPTCHA, or keep the old CAPTCHA from phpBB2 which is at least readable

I voted for that as well... but alas, it was shot down.

They said it was too easy to break, but I don't know... it seems like every CAPTCHA that has been submitted has been cracked. It must just be a rank of difficulty.

Ultimately it's up to David :D

I still would like a more readable option, per reasons already posted by FOA

My idea is to be sure that no spammer or bot could log in is to create a system with a question and 3 or 4 answers linked to images, all customizable by users to have a very large number of possibility. Exemple :

Select the animal which can fly :
