Yep,

Same boat here.

Would not recommend Olympus for a regular user, but a php/SQL experienced user would do well to have a pre-Beta 3 board.

Why not? Unless you're calling "Olympus" the CVS versions and not the final product...

It's often been understood that "Olympus" is the development version codename (since using 2.1 is really more trouble than it's worth) and not the name we'll use after release, when it's really not Olympus anymore, by that reckoning, but phpBB 3.0.0. Now, that may not be strictly accurate, but if it's a mistake to put it that way, Highway of Life came by it honestly, I think.

Wow, it looks great, i presume with it been phpBB it will still be free?

Also, with it looking like such a big update, will phpBB2 have to be wiped or can you do a full upgrade from phpBB2 to phpBB3

phpBB 2 users will be able to upgrade to phpBB 3. The only potential problems will be for those with heavily altered databases, as always.

Yeah... that should be a real piece-o-cake.

I have a tough task ahead of me with my heavily modded board. :(
But that's why I'm creating my own conversion script.

There really shouldn't be any mod that you could install that wouldn't be able to be easily upgraded to 3 with the converter script. As long as the mod doesn't alter any of the existing database rows or tables. They can add as much as they want to the database, but not change the original rows(like rename them).
