Will the main phpbb site change when the beta is released?
Will it changeover to the newer version or wait for RC etc?

I think it was posted somewhere that the main site would change when the final is out. It is not that simple (ok in a technicale sense it is, use the by that time avaible converter and finished), because the main site will have to be reorganised into phphbb2 support (it was said that the 2.x.x would be continued to be supported) and phpbb3 support.
((perfect timing-_-, i wasnt able to log in this weekend cuz Dad thinks this site is bad and that your all the spawn of Satan....hmm go figure^_^))

I imagine that any changes which need to be made will take place with the final release, to bring the style in to line with the new template being developed for the release.

Personally i think they should show off their new stuff. Just about all the others do both free and pay for bb from beta on up. Besides that this 3.0 is a HUGE improvement from the current very outdated 2.+ series.
To each their own i suppose.

This isn't about "to each his own" and has been discussed before. There are widely known reasons why phpBB 3's default style will not be made public prior to final.
The bottom line is that subSilver was made public before phpBB 2 final, and out of that experience, the developers have (wisely, I think) decided against doing that again with phpBB 3.

Any idea as to what happend? I honestly dont know. The end result of making subSilver public considerably prior to final was that when 2.0 hit the shelves, many people starting thinking that phpBB had ripped off its look an feel from other products and from the work of skinners for other products. The truth was that subSilver had been influential prior to 2.0 release, which wasn't a bad thing necessarily, but when phpBB comes out looking bad, something has gone wrong.
