2+ yrs just to get a newer version out in beta?
Sorry but no matter how anyone wants to explain it that is terrible. I know of no other bb developers who produce that slow who as well do it for FREE. And their products arent buggy either.
Its a shame too because it is leaving phpbb way WAY behind the rest and WAY outdated as well.
My gut says it is not even close to being ready either by the endless it will be ready when it's ready replies. Which btw i believe replies like that by admins/developers and staff is in bad taste. Doesnt leave much confidence in people with intrest in your product here. Timelines i admit stink but when your trying to put out a product to the public timelines are expected. FREE or not.
This forum does look good btw. A HUGE improvement over the 2.0+ series.
Sorry about my ranting. Just felt this needed to be said.

We hadn't heard that before. Developers heard that thousand times and it's not that stimulating.TwistedWeather wrote: Just felt this needed to be said.

Re: Not trying to be rude but
I think the fact the bug tracker has been opened shows that the beta phase is not that fair off. The level of development work in the last few months has been stellar. So while maybe before that you could be forgiven slightly for the impression that stuff was taking to long, now however though the team are firing on a cyclinders and we are motoring nicely towards a landmark phpBB release.

It's better for phpBB3 to be done better than to do it on a rush job...

You expect timelines. Other people expect quality.TwistedWeather wrote: Timelines i admit stink but when your trying to put out a product to the public timelines are expected. FREE or not.
The only thing timelines do is set expectations, and when they can't be met, they lead to outcry amongst those interested in the product. If you doubt this, just check out Microsoft's constantly moving dates and the shouts of disappointment that follow them. This is why Valve, id, Epic, and other game companies provide release dates of "when it's done" up until they're in a strong beta status.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.

Re: Not trying to be rude but
Like I read in another post, deadlines would only put pressure on the developers to get it finished by that time, which could result in missing things or more bugs or whatnot, and then if people are expecting it on a certain date, and it does not come, people might be dissapointed.Martin Blank wrote:You expect timelines. Maybe developers should say that BETA1 will be released in 2009? If it will be released earlier people will only be very happy
