Main phpBB Site

Post by Aldenhier »

When will the main phpBB home page (phpbb.com) update to 3.0? During BETA, RC, or Gold? Just wondering, because if I see phpBB.com as olympus, I will automatically think that it is gold version. :D

i would guess that the site as a whole will change on the release of olympus. You have to remember we will still be offering support for the 2.*.* line so the site will completly need restructuring.

I would think at 3.0.0 as well.. Because they will have to make changes due to the addition of the new style.. We cant have the forum looking totally different to the rest of the site..

You'll see phpBB3.0, along with its new default style, here, long before the main site, that's for sure.

My recollection is that phpBB.com was updated for phpBB 2 final release. The new phpBB.com and the new phpBB were rolled out together—as I recall.

I also remember a policy Paul harped on, before even phpBB2, that phpBB.com would never be used for testing future releases as some others have done (ie using alphas/betas/RCs on their main forums, ala IPS, Jelsoft). I'm not sure if this policy is still in place since Paul isn't here anymore.

My guess is that so long as area51 remains, that policy is still in place.

I think they should switch over during the first release candidate. All the major bugs should be fixed by then and the additional testing might be hugely beneficial. The whole purpose of a release candidate is to say "I think my product is ready for shipping". If you are not prepared to deploy it on your own site then it isn't ready for release candidiate status.

But it wouldn't have the new style until gold release of course.
