You can nowhere download the beta (at this moment ), because it isn't yet a beta version, it is still alpha

Yes, 2.1 is the development version number. It will be released as 3.0.

Why can't someone who is in official channels go to the CVS page and just re-label 2.1.x as pre-Alpha 3.0, especially when it's been so long since it became its own code base? Yeah, yeah - I know - they like to use odd-numbered point releases to indicate development versions. But obviously it's still not clear to new people if the question is being asked for the seventy thousandth time... Why not preclude all of this nonsense by just making it definitive and clear once and for all? Call it pre-Alpha 3.0 on the CVS page for heaven's sake!

Admittedly, it's if anything, it's more confusing, but, it fits with the numbering scheme, and makes me chuckle.
