Maybe you could add a quick reply like vB 3.5.3 uses, the one that doesn't refresh the page at all when posting. It's very nice and quick.

Quick Reply is not in the list of things for 3.0, and the devs have traditionally declined to add it in, as they feel that it actually detracts from the board's purpose of being a forum and not a chat site, and pointing out that mods are available for it.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.

You could just add the ability to the Admin CP that allows the admins to disable quick reply. :/
Also, the QR in vBulletin uses AJAX. I personally would love to see AJAX in phpBB.

Just to confirm what Martin Blank said, QR isn't coming to phpBB by default anytime soon (if at all)....

I still don't see how a quick reply feature directly relates to a "chat site" as you are insinuating. How in the world is vB and IPB in business then? Quick reply is a very nice feature that's easy to implement. Implementing it with the use of Ajax is even better. "phpBB3" could definitely use it.
