You just don't seem to get it then. The developers don't a) want your help right now or b) need assistance

So yes, you can wait for a opportunity to help with community coding projects like the rest of us. Why do you feel that you get to jump to the front of the line??

Coming in and saying I'm an accomplished PHP developer, now give me something to do is like my saying that I'm a Indy car driver, now give me a car to race......just saying your good doesn't make it so.

From the responses, I will agree with a. B isn't accurate, because the software isn't perfect, doesn't do everything everyone wants, and isn't released yet. So clearly, assistance could be benficial.

But I will agree that "a" appears to be the case, and I'll move right along.

I never said I did. I asked what the process was. Asked and answered.

And now yet another attack. I never said I was good, I said I was accomplished, and willing to help.

I've gotten the answer to the question I asked: The devs don't want help, and there is nothing for a developer that would like to help to contribute at this point.

Why do members feel the need to attack and continue questioning someone offering to HELP?

You can start working on your own MOD's for the current version of the board.

That might be one way to show everyone what you can do and maybe get your foot in the door at some point.....

Except that the current plan is for all existing mods to be incompatible with the upcoming version. I'd rather spend my time and effort on something that won't be obsoleted as soon as the release comes out.

I appreciate this reply more than any other in the chain so far. However, as I said before, from the replies, I think its best for me to spend my energy in a different way.

At this point in time, the most productive thing that people can do to help with development is to give us some time and space to actually do some coding and stop demanding that we include things that we have already stated will not be included.

We have no plans to take on any more new developers at this point in time.

So, if you want to help what can you do?
a) wait for the point where we open for bug reports and file reports on things which do not work as they are supposed to (although as a reminder for people, please do not be surprised if bugs along the lines of "I don't like this" or "you haven't done what I wanted" get closed, we'll be after reports on things which don't work or have problems, not things which people don't like ;) )
b) go to the main site and provide support for people trying to use the current version. This is one of the most useful things that people can do at this point in time
c) go to the main site and look at writing MODs for features that people are requesting for the current version. That way there is a chance for you to release code such that people can actually see if you are able to deliver what you claim.

Now most of this is not specifically directed at the original poster, but as general comments to everyone. Our past experience as proved to us that it is much better to have a small development team selected based on proven skill that to take on every single person who comes in claiming to be able to code.

MODding anyversion of phpBB is a great way to show your skill. ;) Giving support is also a great way to show your dedication, and trustworthyness.

I would like to mention that of the people who have replied to you, only Graham and I are on a phpBB Team, and only Graham is on the development team (I am on the MODifications team). So he is to know best of the requirements and current positions open (which was stated no current positions open).

Remember, this is the phpBB groups project, and as such, it's their decision how to run it (including how many developers are required, features included, style etc... this goes out to everyone).

It would be a good idea to not get angry or debate this intensely if you wish to one day join the team, it won't reflect kindly on yourself.

I've been as polite as I can reasonably be, with the responses given. I've also said I'll be focusing my energy elsewhere.

you should make some kickass mods for 2.0.x like a Karma system that works, and a nice WYSIWYG editor :)
