plzzzz help mee

Having problems installing EM? Let's fix that
Forum rules
DO NOT give out any FTP passwords to anyone! There is no reason to do so! If you need help badly enough, create a temporary FTP account that is restricted to only the files that you need help with and give the information for that. Giving out FTP information can be very dangerous!

If you are using a free hosting service, it is likely that they have security measures turned on that would prevent a utility like EM from reading and writing files to your own server. If you have set the permissions to 755 for your folders and you still have this problem, you may have to contact your host to see if they can help...

Try using the FTP for moving/writting.

Then you should be OK (though you may need the fix in may sig if you'll use FTP). Did you tryed to install EM? Please do! As EM said "You do not need everything to read 'ok'." and FYI read/write access and such are tested by the script and not by FTP. Additional tests will be done after you will fill in the FTP settings and hit submit.

i thing you mean File Access Info in the first step of Install

this :
File Access Info
Let's see what you have for file access. You do not need everything to read 'ok'.

read access :: OK
write access :: No
root path write :: No
chmod access :: unattempted
unlink access :: unattempted
mkdir access :: unattempted
tmp path write :: OK
FTP extension :: OK
Safe Mode :: OFF
copy access :: No

after than in step two

Testing selected write method
Testing FTP access...
1) Logged in successfully
2) CD to EasyMOD path successfully
3) wrote to phpBB root successfully
Write access method confirmed!
The modified files will be written to a buffer and then FTP'd into place.
Testing selected move method
Testing FTP access...
1) Logged in successfully
2) CD to EasyMOD path successfully
3) wrote to phpBB root successfully
Move access method confirmed!
The core phpBB files will automatically be replaced by modified files via FTP.

it must work

but in the end no result

write access :: No
root path write :: No

Nux, I'm just curious. Do you really think it's possible to install EM the normal way if their server is reporting that there is no read, right, or copy access? It seems like most of the people who are having the most trouble installing EM are reporting the same problems. I wish there was some kind of EM guide to say what will not work when the report is similar to what we see above...

It seems like if changing permissions to 755 doesn't fix this, there isn't much that we can do until the Host changes permissions on the site...

First thing you have to know is that the user that is running a script is set in conf(iguration) files of the server. So this is basically, the host's problem.

Second thing is that if something isn't really strange, then if you copy something to FTP, then you will be able to modify and delete it, because you will be the owner of that file.

And as for FAI (File Access Info):
All of the below tests are done by, through and for the script.
  • read access :: the languages/lang_easymod_english.php is tested for reading.
  • write access :: EM_test.txt is created and some output is put in it.
  • root path write :: /phpBB/index.php is opened for appending (no changes are done), this test is for checking permissinons on a main forum file.
  • chmod access :: chmod (changing permissions) function is tested on EM_test.txt.
  • unlink access :: unlink (deleting) function is tested on EM_test.txt.
  • mkdir access :: mkdir (creating directory) function is tested to create EM_test_dir.
  • copy access :: try to use the copy function, to copy a file languages/lang_easymod_english.php to /phpBB/EM_test.txt (from easymod to main forum)
Other tests:
  • tmp path write :: some tests to check the access to /tmp folder.
  • FTP extension :: checks if the FTP extension for PHP is loaded (this doesn't meant that FTP can't be used).
  • Safe Mode :: just checks if it's on or off.
Only tmp path write, Safe Mode and FTP extension can mean something for the FTP moving/writting methods, but none realy means that using FTP will be possible or impossible.

Write method "server" need: write access and mkdir access.
Move method "copy" need: copy_access and root_write.

But generally if you will choose "I don't have FTP access. Have EasyMOD suggest what to do please!" and hit submit, then EasyMOD will check everything for you.
