- A bit more power in ACP
- A better permission system
- Subforums
I totally agree with trevor on the points above. The only thing I want to add to this is better tempate system. You can change the colors of tne current one from the control panel, you can edit the css .... I find it confusing.
I would like it to be to be flexible enough so that I can use that template on my website, so that the forum template and the site template could match.

i think the features of the current snapshots are good.
the only thing i miss is an ip logger.
i think this is important to check if users have more than 1 account.

in my old phpbb2 i use the ip logger mod from twing. its a little bit chnaged so that you can see if a user haver chnaged his username / logging in under other username...
is there a possibility to extend the admin logging function?

The styles system has some surprises left that are currently in the final stages of development. :) Stay tuned.

Template Engine
Auth and User system FINALLY work correctly
Being able to run the damn thing on E_ALL
A very fancy version of BBCodes
What else...
Prolly the dbal, it got much cleaner
The ease of porting over phpBB 3 features to phpBB 2
For the first time, a phpBB script is not getting poorly written and bloated sub forums
The module UCP and MCP are fairly awesome ( I don't agree with some modularity but its still cool )
The modular pages of the ACP are no longer fundamentally brain damaged as they were before!
The ease of having a nice attachment and compress lirbrary.

Personally, I think those are all pieces to the question, "Is there a God?"

Btw: Please look for a pure php implamentation of SHA1 before you feed us to the hungry dog that is mhash.

Can you tell me, what is the name of the mod that shows Who is online on every page ? I realised that this Who is online shows online users only for a specific forum, the forum your are browsing. I'll be gladely if you tell me the name of the mod.

That isn't a MOD, it's a feature of phpBB3

Anyway, my favourite features:
  • The "another post has been added" warning
  • New style (This subSilver is great, I can't imagine what the new one will be like)
  • Better ACP
  • Better Permissions
  • Conditionals in templates
  • If I put {L_BLAH} in a template, and 'L_BLAH' is not set in the php file, phpBB will change it to { Blah } - that's really useful to me because I am forever forgetting to define lang strings
  • BBCodes go in at the caret point, not the end
  • Posting colours
  • Custom BBCodes
  • Every other new feature

My users are going to be disappointed by this, because there will be no more ninja posting (unless, I think, one can get in something in the milliseconds between check and insert). I'm looking forward to it, though, because I often make lengthy posts on certain things, and not getting ninja'ed is handy in those cases.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.
