Search Function

Post by rclarke »

Just checking out the new board and was wondering why the Search icon results in:
Sorry but you are not permitted to use the search system.
Of course this has probably already been answered but I can't use the search function to search for the answer ;)

I was wondering whether a) it hasn't been coded yet or b) the search function can be turned on and off by the board admin.

Thanks,

Rod.

It's defintaely been coded - I presume that it is one of the permissions you can set in the ACP.
If I had to guess as to why it's disabled, I'd say it was because of the developers needing to sort out the MySQL fulltext searching - Although I don't know that.

Thanks for the answer ... just as an aside and for any devs reading this, it may be a good idea to change that particular message to read:
The search function has been disabled by the board Administrator, apologies for any inconvenience caused.
That way it would apply equally well if the config was permanent or temporary.

Keep up the great work,

Rod.

In some ways, that depends ;)

The search system can be enabled/disabled on a per user/group basis as well as globally using the permissions system so telling someone they don't have permission to search is semantically valid.

Of course, as always the language strings can be changed to whatever you want if you don't like the default wording in the released version (and I can't say what it will be at this time)
"So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish"
