This online gaming forum for counter strike is threating to call my friends work and get them fired because their mad at them. The way they found out where they worked was by looking at their ip addresses on the forum since their admins and then doing a "whois" search or something and finding out where they were accessing their forum from. Is this abusive behavior it seems like it to me? Is there anyway i can report them, if it is? Also I really didnt know how to report this or where to post it.
heres a link to the convo if u want to check it out
Thanks

Anybody who can see your IP address can do a whois on it. Nothing abusive. I seriously doubt your friend would get fired over something like this anyways, unless he was looking at pron.
Re: possible site using your forum abusing ip addresses
i know but i mean the fact that their using their admin privelages to find his ip address and then look up private information about him is what im adressesing. Isnt that abusing your admin privelages?

First, contact the people that are doing it directly and tell them to cease or you'll take action. If that doesn't work, go to the admins of the site. At the very last resort, email the hosting provider of the site found in the WHOIS info.

the admins on the site are the people threatening to call my friends work and get them fired though. Also when you go into the forum the admins can see your ip address so thats how they got it
Re: possible site using your forum abusing ip addresses
Right, but as Heimidal states there is nothing we can do I'm afraid.
Re: possible site using your forum abusing ip addresses
I'm sure if he red the Registration agreement on the forum (Unless it was changed) it states that the Admins have a right to view your IP etc.

How did they get your telephone number from your ISP? The WhoIS lookup just reveals data about your ISP...

oh i dunno if they got the telephone number their just threatening to call my friends work. I mean i know that they can look at the IP Address when u write in a forum, but i mean the fact that their admins and can take your IP address and look up information about u is my concern.
Thanks for your help though, I apprectiate the replies.

That's my concern as well. I was under the impression that a court injunction was usually required to force ISPs to give away your personal information.guy476 wrote: i mean the fact that their admins and can take your IP address and look up information about u is my concern.
