1 You have to login twice to be able to access the ACP, it's extra added security
2 Make sure the path where your cookies are stored has been set to a valid path
3 Make sure all your session settings in your php.ini are valid.

I can't view the forums when I am logged in but I can as a guess.
Anyways, I know that this site is not for support so before someone reminds me of that I won't continue this any further. Thanks for all the help.
Since I need to get familiar with the styling change so I can start creating styles I am going to uninstall appserv 2.5 and install 2.4

I found out that with new CVS snapshots of phpbb2 you need to put zend.ze1_compatibility_mode = Off or else loging on the forum seems to be a problem.

This is precisely why we don't want people offering or expecting "support" for the CVS snapshots at this time
