Microsoft is going to release Windows 10 this summer.
Windows 10 will be shipped with a new browser, codenamed "Project Spartan". It has to be at least as good as IE11 is and support at least all the HTML5 and CSS3 that IE11 does. Internet Explorer will be abandoned in the future, although it is said that IE11 will make it into Windows 10.
PhpBB 3.2 will be under development by the time that Win10 is released and it's in the plan to use more HTML5 and CSS3.
However, Internet Explorer can always be an obstacle.
Windows 10 will be offered as a free update to Windows 7/8.1 so many systems around the world will be updated and thus IE<11 usage will significantly drop.
With all that said, which versions of Internet Explorer do you think should be left behind in 3.2?

Re: Which IE versions should we kill?
Pretty sure it was already decided IE8 and up would be supported until EoL of the associated operating system (Vista). For IE8 that would be 4/11/2017 which is when Extended support for Windows Vista ends, although that decision is subject to change.. You can probably forget about even considering dropping support for IE9 and IE10 anytime soon since those were supported on Windows 7. Also this poll is kind of useless here on Area 51. It's like going to a vegan forum, creating a "what kind of steak do you like?" poll, and making the last option "Ewwwww".

MS announced last year that from 12 January 2016 they will only support the latest release of IE available for that OS version, so from that point only IE9 is supported for Vista, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/ ... t-explorerDavidIQ wrote:Pretty sure it was already decided IE8 and up would be supported until EoL of the associated operating system (Vista). Re: Which IE versions should we kill?
Good to know. We could probably drop support for IE8 in whatever major release we have in 2016, which should technically be 3.3 or 4.0, depending on what happens with the version number.pepitoe wrote:MS announced last year that from 12 January 2016 they will only support the latest release of IE available for that OS version, so from that point only IE9 is supported for Vista, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/ ... t-explorerDavidIQ wrote:Pretty sure it was already decided IE8 and up would be supported until EoL of the associated operating system (Vista). Re: Which IE versions should we kill?
IE8 support was already planned to be on the chopping board because of this fact. Meaning IE9+ support in fact most governments have made the transition to IE9. They are usually the last to drop support.

Not sure if it helps somehow, but on Stat Counter website are nice stats about browsers usage.
