Hi i am a total necomer to all of this and need help i have a main forum for gamers and i have made a copy of it in a sub domain is there anyway i can copy the exact forum with postings included over to the tester one as i wish to add some mods but dont want to risk wiping out anything on the main site.
Also i have a spammer trying to gain access and i am deleting 6-8 accounts everyday, is there an area on here that we can all maybe share this idiots emails and account names so we can all check here before allowing new people to our forums, like building a checklist area where we can submit these names IP's and details to try and help us all.
regards

Re: Duplicate Forum
1. Make a copy of your database by exporting it and then importing it with a different table prefix. Copy your phpbb files into the subdomain and then edit the config.php file of your test installation to reflect that new table prefix. Change the script_path value in the config file as necessary, using phpMyAdmin.
2. Going to need more info. Human? How have you banned?, etc.

Re: Duplicate Forum
Hi m8t and thnx for your reply in response to your answer to number 1. i am lost and begining to think this is too complicated for me to attempt as i am total new to it all and wouldnt know where to find or how to do the instructions.
As for 2. yep the person/s have never had an accountthey just started in the public section with links to other websites i.e. quad bike sites so i acted quick and removed and locked it all down, my problem now is they are continuing in thier efforts by making several new accounts everyday for the past week, ours is a gamers forum so i only accept people i have invited or have been invited by other users, its just a pain having to go in and delete these accounts everyday, i do not even activate them as the emails and user names and whois details are heavily listed all over google as spam associated details.
I was also wondering if there was a spam area where we could all post details of the spammers we encounter thus helping each other by giving us a checklist to check of names , IP's and emails etc etc, so if any of us have a new account sign up we could check it here first.
regards

Re: Duplicate Forum
If you have the latest version, you can place all new accounts on moderation, requiring all posts to be approved until X posts have been made. That will stop him.
Your suggestion for a spammer list is not going to be useful.
Try this article for help in the creation of your test site. It deals with moving to a new host, but the basics are the same:
