SITE DOWN == Ploy to force a mass testing of 3.0 ?

Post by sambeckett »

Are we load testing 3.0?

Is this downtime a lie to force people to signup and use 3.0 ?

This is really a shame. Is phpBB some private website with no users?

phpBB should pay and move to a reliable server. I have never seen a website that long offline. A shame :|

But your wrong, phpBB makes tun of $$ from Ads.

The software really is not free, your just making money from Ad Revenue instead then not paying the developers or community members.

Plus they not spending much on the servers (as seen from the failure)

so someone is making a living from this project.

and they even make more money when the site is down, because the only place to click is the main pages advertisement.

:/ sambeckett, nice way to say thanks to people that spend their time to develop free software for you. Even if you think they just earn money in other ways, you still don't pay for the software and it's not like they put ads on your forums.

And $30 * 10,000 = $300,000, but I honestly don't think the devs are taking a lot of money for themselves, if any at all.

And if I'm not wrong they get their servers from OSUOSL, which is supposed to be really reliable for so many projects to trust them (take a look at their site's sidebar and look at how many popular open source projects they host). Disk failures happen, and it's not like they did nothing to prevent it.

Yep. Failures happen. Now quit whining and making up conspiracy stories and show some respect to the people that put their time and effort into software you use for free.
