Some comments and considerations about the Olympus installer

Post by John Hjorth »

This morning I packaged a phpBB 3.0 Beta 4 with a Danish language package (before install) and throw it up on my local server and did the install ...

Jesus ! - What an odd feeling compared to doing phpBB install untill now ... 8O

It came to my mind ... :

Q :

What do you need to be capable of to do an Olympus install on a Netserver ?

A :

Not much !

1 You need to be capable of creating a database (typically in a server panel)
2 You need to be capable of operating a FTP client
3 Eventually you need to be capable of doing CHMOD (if on a Linux server)

Specificly you do not need (any longer) :

4 to be capable of understanding basic English.

The "tech"/"nerdy" side of doing an install is just gone ... 8O  - Basicly Olympus does just everything for you ... - I have searched in the code, but I can't find anything that indicates, that if you take a break under the install procedure to go to Ladies/Mens room, that Olympus will follow you and serve you there also ...

And no messing around with default language settings after finishing install - just move on !

This installer is simply a masterpiece :!: 8)

That type of commenting is hurtful abusive and counterproductive.

I agree. However, it was also true. And it amused me.

So :P

(And yes, I shouldn't feed the troll. But, it sooooo much fun. I'll try to stop now.)
