I was reading that php 5 didn't support some things phpBB needed to function.

I think it was HTTP_*_VARS was depreciated or something.
No this is handled by a small piece of code within coomon.php, the HTTP_*_VARS were deprecated in around PHP4.1.x I believe so if phpBB didnt support the $_* vars there would be a rather large problem..

indeed -- all indications are that 3.0 Beta1's release will be "soon", but "soon" is a relative state of mind also...

Olympus Bugtracker - Open bugs

Look at the bottom left and you'll see a count of the number of open reports. To me, that's like a countdown to the first beta. :)

Edit: Olympus is awesomely fast to load pages. I've never seen anything like it.

Ya, I am just hoping that no more bugs are found(not that I want there to be any and not have them found...just to not have any more bugs!)...I get more excited every day! :D

Most of the commits seem to be database-related as of late.

Cleaning up the less common stuff, it seems -- Oracle, MSSQL, etc. Looks promising.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.
