IMO, I think it would be good to separate smilies off per-style, and maybe ranks too... BUT in both cases, there should be an option to fall back to "global" ranks and smilies, in case the style doesn't have any specified.

From all the hype, probably a completely new layout/design/etc, not having any relation to any previous designs. It will also probably take better advantage of the new phpBB styling system.

Anyone notice that in every single post a developer or moderator makes, they mention something about the new style? They're trying to get us excited about it.

At first it seems complex but it isnt once you know how. Why? Because we're all used to phpBB 2.0.x. Going to 3.0 is a big change; once you're used to it, you realise that the changes are for the better. Kind of like going from Windows to Linux, or Windows to Mac.... or dumping Windows, period. :?

Well, IPB copied phpBB's style, so naturally they look similar.

Uhh, what do you want from the development team? This has been said before: If you don't know about PHP to get into the code and (temporarily) fix things for yourself, don't download CVS! It's not even beta software, where did you get the idea that it SHOULD work? For the record, I've downloaded php...

The smilies/BBCode/HTML system is still undergoing a lot of change right now.
