Re: is "fork" a 4-letter word?

Currently it's nearly impossible to make a frequently updated phpBB's fork that returns some code upstream, because phpBB uses centralized VCS. It's impossible to copy a branch, do some big changes and return these changes upstream - the patch will be very big, changes not well-documented, and nobo...

Re: is "fork" a 4-letter word?

If I say that Linus complains about doing nothing but going through commits everyday, and then I say that the same thing would harm phpBB development, what would the logical conclusion be? That doing the same thing would harm phpBB development? Yeah. Any time spent going through 3rd party code inst...

Re: is "fork" a 4-letter word?

Linus has said in the past that all he does these days is going through commits and deciding what should and should not be merged. For a project like phpBB, doing this is in my opinion, going to be more harmful than helpful to the project. fwiw, linus is talking about dozens of commits a day (natur...

Re: Certificate login

I thought about writing a MOD for this and after some looking around and discussing things with a few people, it was decided nobody wanted it. :P Wish I had now. I could charge you a gazillion bucks. ;) No, there is no support for x.509 in phpBB right now.

It sounds good :) Thanks
The style the user has can differ from the default style. Him being logged in might have a different style than him being logged out
Then only userid is needed, but sid isn't.
That won't work.

Re: Forward-compatible development and the trunk

By definition, the trunk is not stable. phpBB uses the branches and tags model in SVN to flag different releases. However, the branches get committed to to update that version.

Re: Global Warming

Global warming is just a load of confusion for most people, I think it is mostly because of the name of it. "Global warming" would not cause immediate higher temperatures, but a destabilization of the climate. Things will get colder in some areas, warmer in others, and the temperature wil...

Re: unique_id function

As for spoofing your IP address, you are correct, TCP requires a 3-way handshake, thus making it impossible to simply spoof your IP address and get results. Well, you could spoof a TCP packet and make it look like a UDP packet. :P (Webservers listen for UDP packets on :80, don't they?) Still, whate...

Re: Global Warming

You are confusing weather and climate. Global warming is a so-called climate change -- long term. Two, three, four years, is not long term. That being said, I'm with Will -- it's crap -- but it can't even be blamed for what you're saying. While I agree that the climate is changing, I don't see how ...
