Re: Sugestion - Hook system like on vB 3.5

Having used Drupal extensively a hook system is something I would favor over manually editing code, any day! The #1 advantage being not having to mess with the codebase since hooks make updating easier and the #2 you can toggle functions on the fly and "throttle" your site when there's a l...

Re: how can i move my phpbb db from a host to another host

There's third party application that does this rather beautifully, the application has a horrible user interface however and costs a little money but there's a fully working trial available. I've used it a few times, it doesn't require shell access and can resume and both backup and restore. You can...

Re: Feature suggestion: easy updates (like Firefox)

Well Drupal modules can actually change core functionality by overriding already existing functions. Fact is, Drupal itself is a framework that is extremely lightweight and all the additional functionality is added thru modules. Even support for basic features such as users and access control is mod...

Re: seo

Clean URLs are nice if used to a certain extent, on that I agree. For topics and posts, index keys are preferred. I am not saying every single topic needs to be aliased but announcements, stickies, forums and categories should allow it as it will allowed more usable URLs. Easier to remember and easi...

Re: seo

Markus: My point is, when printing URLs or providing them by means of a non-hypertext medium, URLs that contain plain words are easier to type and to remember. This isn't news for anyone. The fact that we use table keys to address data is a result of the old-time habit of computer systems design aff...

Re: seo

Yes, some search engines, far from all. And no, that makes absolutely no sense. I said FORUMS and CATEGORIES, as it's where it actually makes sense. Would you rather have a URL like forums/index.php?c=5 or forums/science_and_philosophy as a URL? Well, 99% of the population would say the latter is bo...

Re: Feature suggestion: easy updates (like Firefox)

I am well aware of that though I believe it's something Acyd and the guys should start looking into for the future. Perhaps someone would be prepared to even port some code from Drupal, it's GPL'd after all. :) I just wanted to bring it to people's attention that there are better ways to extend an a...

Re: seo

Google follows nofollow links but a referal by a nofollow anchor element will not count towards the site's Page Rank which in effect has a direct influence on its position on SERPs.

Re: seo

Regardless, the sort of URLs Drupal produces are much SE friendlier than the URLs phpBB has, they're easier to type too. Clean readable URL aliases would be a great idea for categories and forums, making it easier for people to direct others, being able to refer to a word instead of a primary key in...

Re: Feature Suggestion

1. Possible by comparing hashes. 2. Also possible tho I would recommend this being made as a MOD. 3. Already done unless I'm mistaken as to what you mean. 4. AJAX-editing, there's a phpBB 2 MOD that does it, shouldn't be hard to implement. 5. Not possible, you'd have to make an estimate as to how ma...
