It will really depend on the nature of the MOD. For those which simply add data then altering the script to port that data across is not difficult - basically would be a small MOD to the code ;) For the more complex MODs (ie those which alter how the default fields are used) then the upgrade script ...

However the files will be needed for the actual upgrade since to do a proper upgrade you'll want to transfer the avatars et al over

You don't need a MOD to do this, as has been pointed out many times in this topic, you just select relative dates in your user profile and bingo you have it - there's no need to type anything in either, it's an option in a drop-down list
