Actually I think it is a good idea. Might add an even clearer picture of what the phpbb community would really like to see in the core of the phpbb board.

Actually it is not a dump question, but a valid one. A forum is for discussing topics, what more do you need to socialize? If your looking for mind numbing chatter, then Facebook is a better choice or even one of the numerous Instant Messengers. A chatbox should stay a mod in my opinion.
