Re: Password hashing function

As weak or as strong as any hashing algorithm is going to be, if the adversary knows what algorithm you're using, you're already ceding a point to them...

The strength of real encryption algorithms doesn't come from the fact that the algrithm is secret.

Re: Password hashing function

What you describe is overkill.

I readily agree with you. I did state at the beginning of my post that it's a paranoid approach. It must be noted however, that as time passes, what constitutes "overkill" will also change, based on what breaks and what remains secure.

It is based on the ...

Re: Password hashing function

Well, to set paranoia in good and firm, how about the following...
Wavering Table Functions.

As weak or as strong as any hashing algorithm is going to be, if the adversary knows what algorithm you're using, you're already ceding a point to them...

Instead, i propose the following (paranoid) setup ...

You make it sound almost tame.

But they are! ;) &

Are you trying to cover up after the dark day of bertie madness when he went psychotic on the last person who asked that question and plastered their front lawn with phpbb bumper stickers, and keyed up their car?

it got ugly x_x ...
