You shouldn't have to chmod any of your files. Just use FTP for your settings and everything should work fine. Which the FTP user has to be able to write. In other words have permission to write files on your site.

This is a reason for having a preview mode which is already going to be added in 0.0.11. That way you can fix all of the problems before installing the MOD.

This would be a good feature. Say you have a MOD that you are trying to install but the the action that is trying to be done can't be done since another MOD has edited that part of the code.
