Re: Installing an application over a netowrk

That's going to depend on the available architecture. You may be able to do it through a login script that ties into the installer (many of which have options for scripted installations), or alternately (and somewhat easier in the long run) through Group Policy, if you're using Active Directory.

Re: Raid-5

RAID-6 isn't as commonly supported, though. In terms of cost and support, RAID-5 is by far the most common way to handle things, and the most cost-effective for critical data.

As for the drives, if you're using an enterprise-level system (Dell, HP, etc), you get what they send you as a replacement ...

Re: Raid-5

RAID-6 isn't new, just not widely supported. In RAID-6, parity is striped twice, so that two drives may fail and the data is still recoverable. It's more common to use a hot-standby drive that is automatically cycled in by the RAID-5 controller to replace a failed drive.

Ow.

I think I'd get annoyed if that were a common requirement.

Re: So, I'm feeling an RC release soon...

I see 48 open bugs without a big burst of new items in the short time since your post. It needs to get a lot lower than that (even lower than 36) to get RC1 out. They may well do a big burst of tackling this weekend like they did last weekend and chop it down to the teens, which might be sufficient ...

It's just that this question has been asked and answered many times. Use of the search function would have provided an answer without requiring a post.

Remind sends out another e-mail to allow a user to activate the account. This can help in case the original message got lost in the masses.

Re: Installing an application over a netowrk

Define "installed over the network." Do you want to install it to a server where multiple systems can access it? Do you want to install from a server to local systems? Do you want to install so that the files reside remotely but are run locally?
