It makes perfect sense in my scenario.

I am the administrator of the forum, and every once in a while I get a request, from a user to say that they can't get access to their previous email address and want a new one to be activated. The trouble is, they could be anybody saying that!

But if they don't have access to their original email address, how can they link a new email address to the forums?

In PHPBB3, you would need access to the original email, before you can start using the new one, this is for security reasons, so if I circumvented that system, it would be negating the security a little.

Yep, but verification initially goes to the original email address first, of course.

For any forum owners here, what do you when a user loses their email address and wants to start using a new email address in connection with your forum please?
