Re: xenforo, new forum software, great source for ideas

at the first glance, I think you are envolved somehow into that project and as an old moderator here..
I don't think a personal attack is helpful or necessary.

The reason I highlight the user interface features of xenforo is because they make that forum system popular.

Re: xenforo, new forum software, great source for ideas

I'll re-state that I think the UI features they have should be considered for inclusion in the default template that ships with phpBB, perhaps with easy options to disable those features which people don't like (like hover tooltips).

Re: URL Rewriting MOD

I still maintain nice URLs are good, not for SEO so much, but usability: you can mouse-over a forum post link to see what the thread is about, before clicking it, from its URL. Aren't sbujects the purpose of what you say here? So you say you want to look at the statusbar to see what the topic is ...

xenforo, new forum software, great source for ideas

Hi guys,

I recommend you spend some time playing with this new forum software being developed: xenforo . It's currently alpha. It'll be commercial. Look at (a) the developers' statements on their philosophy on forums (b) their implementation of that philosophy.

They're all about discussion and ...

Re: [Usability] Reducement of confirmation pages / Allow und

Eelke's understood my view. Let me outline what I'd suggest.
Firstly, for terminology, I'll call "confirmation" pages those which ask a yes/no question, and "acknowledgement" pages those which say 'done, redirecting'.

Acknowledgement pages, in order of preference:
should be removed and replaced ...

Re: Blizzard's New Forum

I like how they have:
  • mouse-over preview of the post's content
  • mouse-over the posted "three days ago" to get the actual date
  • mouse-over the post to see the reply/quote buttons
  • little menu for each avatar, which displays choices like show user posts/see profile, etc
Source.

Re: [Usability] Reducement of confirmation pages / Allow und

Putting aside the 'undo' complexities, I would want "action completed" pages removed in most places.

phpBB saying "done, redirecting in 5s" is just annoying. Give me a javascript "done" on the new page that fades our, or have a persistent "done" which you close with an "x" box (like youtube's ...

Re: Login after register

I think really, it's only pretty organised geeks who log-out and log back in to store a complex password.

I would hazard a guess that most community members of non-geek forums use the same password everywhere, and would greatly appreciate not having to log in manually after registration.

Geek ...

Re: Enable AJAX Quick Edit

Yeah, in the right places, it's a really beautiful feature for useability. I agree.

I liked this example because the mod is already working, just needs some testing to iron out a few issues with bbcodes which sometimes don't get parsed; so that sounds a lot easier for a developer than writing an ...
