In the overall_header.html in template folder of your style
there must be
<title>{SITENAME} • <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} • <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} • <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title>
Here you can modify if but keep that if you modify it you will lose page titles for ...

if you have no mod installed why don't you try to upload the new package completely 3.04 and then run databse_update.php file
as you ahve messed with files but now with the bd so you can associate the db with a fresh installation
