I know how to change it, don't worry. Just have to take into account the various versions of this (normal, extended, scroll) * RTL.

I am not saying you did it wrong, I am saying lets just keep it simple instead of bloating everything with images. I thought, 3.1 and later 3.2 is trying to remove all images from style and use CSS and icons (FA in 3.2) instead.

While the icons aren't dynamic, the red does indicate that it will find "red" topics/posts if there are any . So the color shows what will be found, not whether there are any to find.

A blue icon will do the same thing. I just find it odd looking. FWIW, the icons seem to be pretty worthless ...
