The MySQLi extension was developed almost three years ago if I remember well. It means MySQL Improved, it has been released as a new method to connecting to a MySQL server from inside PHP. It also supports MySQL 4.1+ which the older extension didn't.

The sooner (if any) bugs are found and corrected the sooner we will have the beta4 or RC1 out. What you, me and everybody can and should do is, download the beta 3 or CVS and test it thoroughly.

Sending a different header to the browser and using a different encoding in the database, these are the differences I am aware of.

Maybe, but nobody is sure if someone decides to make that MOD at some time. MODs are, after all, MODs! ;) You do not have a warranty or guarantee that they will exist or that they will fit the purpose ...

They want to develop/test the board here. That's why the "official" beta support forum is under the main boards at phpbb.com. Of course if users want to take part in the testing are welcomed to, that's why it's open to ...

Gold, of course. I don't want to use live any RC because they are just release candidates! They may still have bugs, and the most trusted version will be the final (Gold) one.
