Strictly speaking a RC is stable enough to make a final release. Its just another precaution to find any faults/bugs in the code

I see everyones points on this but a API system is (to me) bloat. Personally i wouldn't use it. I wouldn't need it, and i wouldn't want it. Honestly, if you love messing with code nothing will stop you. But the majority of users would truly embrace this, coupled with an online repository of modules similar to what Joomla has it would make it so easy to add features to your board.
