Re: Group promotion. in phpbb 3.1

are you sure? i was under the impression that "events" are meant for 3.1 (if i misunderstood, it won't be the first nor the last time). in any event, i do not see any connection between the framework question and any specific feature, and this one included. why would symphony make event sy...

Re: [RFC] Soft Delete

since we do test the post_approve state *anyway* with all the performance sensitive queries on these tables (topics and posts) today, i do not believe there will be any effect on performance. actually, this is the most compelling argument why the correct implementation would be to overload this exis...

Re: [RFC] Soft Delete

soft delete can be implemented so easily and seamlessly that such a long discussion seems *almost* redundant. (it is not - the UI has to be discussed!) i think i mentioned it in the past. the only sane implementation is to extend the "approval" mechanism a bit. currently, a post can be in ...

Re: Spam handling for phpBB 3.1

You also need to announce the main goal for 3.1. The main feature and the major changes that will be added in 3.1. this usually does not work. release cycle can be either feature/content oriented ("this is the content - it will be ready when it's ready"), or schedule oriented ("this ...

Re: Spam handling for phpBB 3.1

i would put it in phpbb.com announcements. of course, you have to make sure that the announcement is clear wrt the question of "what exactly is going to happen on may 31". you probably don't want people to think this is the release date. i assume this is "code freeze" date, but m...

Re: Login Logs

session garbage-collected is a far cry from "as they stop viewing something on the site" which is what the OP was talking about. this happens, afair about an hour later? so if you log user activity, you can *automatically* assume that an hour after log-in there is a log-out, and the qualit...

Re: [RFC] Post log/record

Personally I'm not worried about db space. However as for mysql fulltext, I'd be happy to see a patch for a new search plugin interface that allows to change the UI. Once we have that I'm all for offering different feature sets in different search backends, including dropping some mostly useless fe...

Re: [RFC] Post log/record

i do not believe disk or db space is a serious consideration. my understanding is that editing a post is relatively rare occasions. most posts are submitted and stay as is, so this will not affect the space requirements by much. Further to that compression or differencing could be used. true, but i...
